Driving in cold weather
●
Train driving on open snow and ice covered terrain before driving on snow or ice
covered roads.
●
Test whether the vehicle reacts to steering and braking manoeuvres on the
respective ground.
●
Check the vehicle before driving:
– Can all control levers be moved freely and without obstruction?
– Is the footwell in the vehicle free of ice and snow?
– Can the wheels move freely and without obstruction? (To do this, shift to idle
and move the vehicle back and forth.)
If the brakes are frozen:
●
Take the vehicle to a warmer place to let the brakes thaw.
WARNING
Never drive on frozen lakes or rivers.
WARNING
Drive slowly and particularly carefully on surfaces covered with snow or ice.
Be prepared that ground conditions may change quickly.
NOTE
If the vehicle does not roll, the brake pads may be frozen to the brake discs.
WARNING
Never thaw frozen brakes pouring warm water over the brake pads or the
brake caliper.
NOTE
Brake the brakes dry after thawing.
NOTE
After driving in mud, snow or sludge, brake brakes dry before parking the
vehicle.
