Check cable signal strength
The signal strength for a port can be checked to determine if there are any weak or faulty fiber
optic cables.
♦
To check cable strength:
1. Go to the W
EB
XR Ports page and right-click any port on a blade.
2. From the pop-up menu, select Blade/Port Status. In the window displayed, notice the
signal strength displayed on the port icon. The signal strength is also displayed in the
section for Current SFP Threshold Values:
The Cable Test graphically displays the transceiver’s receive (RX) signal strength for each
port on the selected blade. Signals are shown in decibels (dBm) and are rounded to the
nearest 0.05mW. The RX signal strength for that SFP is displayed. Refer to the following
chart for an explanation of color coding on the port:
3. Continue to select ports from the Blade/Port Status window to view the signal strength for
each port.
NOTE
Cable checks can be performed only on ports with transceivers that support signal
display. Cable testing cannot be performed on blades that do not have transceivers
installed or on ports with copper SFPs.
