Informing, educating and training operators to use the machine
Obligation to inform and educate
This manual does not describe the general safety aspects which must already be observed in the
workplace in conformity with that which is prescribed by the European Directives regarding workplace
safety.
It is nonetheless useful to highlight some important points in order to avoid them being overlooked in
the facility’s manual and safety plan.
Risk protection begins with informing and educating the workers.
INFORMING the workers.
The employer shall arrange for every worker to be adequately informed about:
- the general health and safety risks involved with the company’s activities;
- the safety measures and activities which have been adopted;
- the specific risks they are exposed to in relation to the jobs that they perform, the safety standards
and the relative company regulations;
- the dangers involved in using dangerous substances and compounds which are indicated at the
bottom of their relative safety labels, and are required both by the current standards and by the
Code of Practice;
- the procedures regarding first aid, fire prevention and evacuation of the workplace.
EDUCATING the workers.
The employer, the managers and the supervisors, with regards to their respective fields and
responsibilities, shall ensure that each worker receives a sufficient and adequate education regarding
health and safety, with particular focus upon the specific jobs and responsibilities of the workers
themselves.
The education of the employees must take place:
- upon hiring;
- upon transfer or change of responsibilities;
- upon the introduction of new work equipment, new technologies and new dangerous substances or
compounds.
The education must be periodically repeated in relation to the evolution of the risks, or rather if new
risks should arise due to modifications to the configuration of the machine or its units.
