DD8
plus Version 2.20 - September 1998
During the export process, portions of audio will be discarded so that only audio that is actually
needed will be copied and converted. If you are familiar with the DL1500, you will notice the
similarity to the COMPILE function. In fact, you can use the DD8’s EXPORT function to export
an AKAI project to another AKAI project on a different disk! During this process, audio files will
be minimised - unused top and tails will be discarded and additionally, unused audio in the
middle of the source file will not be copied, thus creating multiple files:

Pressing HANDLE (F3/F4) will move the cursor to the Handle field where you can select how
much extra audio will be copied before and after the audio that is actually referenced in the
project. If the Handle is very large, it is likely that the source audio files will be copied intact
without being minimised.
DD1000 DISK COMPATIBILITY
The DD8 uses the same disk format as the Akai DD1500, DR8 and DR16. Disks can be inter-
changed directly between any of these machines. Additionally, the DD8 can read and use disks
made on the Akai DD1000 and it is possible to play Qlists created on a DD1000 directly on the

LOADING DD1000 QLISTS
When you select a drive that has a DD1000 disk in it, an extra soft key will be shown on the
DISK SETUP page when you press the DISK key.
To load a DD1000 Qlist, you should press the DD1000 LOAD key (F3/F4) to go to the LOAD
DD1000 QLIST page. The screen will show a list of DD1000 Qlists which you may load as
normal.
When the Qlist is loaded, the DD8’s project deals with overlapping cuts and track output assign-
ments using two schemes. If cuts use different outputs (for example, a mixture of outputs A, B or
AB, the following track assignments will be used:
