READ BEFORE OPERATING
A.
This appliance does not have a pilot light. It is equipped with an ignition device, which
automatically lights the burner. Do NOT try to light the burner by hand.
B.
BEFORE OPERATING smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to
the floor, as some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:
•
Do not try to light any appliance
•
Do not touch or operate any electric switch
•
Do not use any phone in the building
•
Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbors phone or
from outside with your cell phone and follow the gas supplier’s
instructions.
•
Call the fire department if the gas supplier cannot be reached.
C.
Use only your hand to turn the gas ball-valve knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not turn
by hand, do NOT try to repair it, but rather call a qualified service technician. Force or
attempted repair may result in a fire or explosion
D.
Do not use this appliance if any part has been submerged under water. Immediately call a
qualified service technician to inspect the appliance and replace any part of the control
system and any gas control device that has been submerged under water.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1.
STOP! Read the safety information above.
This appliance is equipped with an ignition
device which automatically lights the burner.
DO NOT try to light the burner by hand.
2.
Set room thermostat(s) to lowest setting.
Turn the external manual gas valve handle
clockwise to CLOSED position (valve handle
shall be perpendicular to gas piping).
3.
Turn the service switch on the Esteem
control panel to OFF.
4.
Remove the front jacket panel on the unit.
5.
Turn the external manual gas valve handle
counter clockwise to OPEN position (valve
handle shall be parallel to gas piping).
6.
Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If
you then smell gas in the jacket enclosure or
around the unit,
STOP!
Follow “B” in the
safety information above. If you don’t smell
gas, go to the next step.
7.
Turn the service switch on the Esteem
control panel to “ON”.
8.
Set room thermostat(s) to desired setting(s).
9.
The Esteem control panel display will show a
sequence of numbers (0,1,2,3,etc.) in the left
digit. Sequence digit 3 or 4 indicates the
boiler is firing. Sequence digit 0 means there
is no call for heat (all external thermostats
are satisfied).
10.
If the unit will not operate with a call for heat
and the system piping is not hot, follow the
instructions “To Turn Off Gas to Appliance”,
below and call your service technician or gas
supplier.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Set the thermostat to its lowest setting.
2. Turn off switch on Esteem control panel, and any downstream electrical service switches.
3. Close the external manual gas valve clock-wise to OFF position.
