Program Temporary Basal Rate (TBR)
You can program your pump to temporarily deliver an increased or decreased basal rate. This
function is helpful in matching your changing insulin needs due to increased or decreased
activity level, illness, or stress.
A typical basal rate is set to 100%. You can, however, increase the basal rate to as high as
200% or to as low as 0% for up to 24 hours. The duration of the TBR can be programmed in
increments of 15 minutes.
When you increase or decrease your basal rate, each hourly basal rate for the duration you
program is increased or decreased.
If the change is larger than 0%, the characteristic shape of your Basal Rate Profi le remains
and does not become a fl at curve. If the change is to 0%, the Basal Rate Profi le becomes a
fl at curve and no insulin except boluses is delivered during the programmed duration.
Your doctor or healthcare team will help you determine when you should use a TBR and how
much you should increase or decrease your basal rate.
