NOTE: If you do not see this entry, you need to re-install TCP/IP. See
Appendix A for more information. Once you have reinstalled TCP/IP,
return to this troubleshooting tip.
In the "TCP/IP Properties" screen that appears, click the "IP Address"
tab. Make sure the "Obtain an IP address automatically" option is
checked. Click
OK
and close all open windows. Restart your computer
and try registration again.

In CMCC, click
Options
, click
Preferences
, and then click
DHCP IP
Address
. Make sure "Auto Detect" is enabled (unless your cable
company recommends against it). Restart your computer and try
again. If registration fails again after restarting, contact your cable
company.

Click Windows
Start
, click
Settings
, and then click
Control Panel
.
Double-click the
System
icon. Click the "Device Manager" tab. Click
the "+" next to the "Network adapters" category. If you see and entry
called "Dial-Up Adapter [#2 VPN Support]", click it to highlight it and
then click
Remove
. You will be asked if you are sure you wish to
uninstall the device. Click
OK
. Click
OK
and close all open windows.
Restart your computer and try registration again.
During registration, I
receive a "<TFTP
Error> code =4,
timeout" message.

Click the
Register again
button. Registration may proceed despite
this error.

, point to
Settings
, and click
Control Panel
.
Double-click the
Network
icon. In the list of installed network
components appears, highlight "TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter" and then
click
Properties
. In the "TCP/IP Properties" screen that appears, click
the "IP Address" tab. Make sure the "Obtain an IP address
automatically option is checked. Click
OK
and close all open windows.
Restart your computer and try again. If registration fails again after
restarting, contact your cable company.
My cable modem
does not dial my
cable company's
server properly.
■
Make sure your phone line is active. Plug a telephone into the analog
phone jack and listen for a dial tone.
■
Make sure you are dialing the correct access number for your cable
company's cable modem service.
