Appendix A Installing the ISA Adapter Board on a Desktop Computer
55
2
2
Locate the serial number of the ISA adapter board and write it
down in the Important Information table on page 64.
3
3
Take the cover off the computer. This is a little different for
every computer. If you are not familiar with the procedure,
consult the computer’s manual for more detailed instructions.
4
4
Locate an available ISA slot (see the illustration in step 6).
5
5
Unscrew and remove the metal cover plate on the rear of the
computer that lines up with the slot. This plate is similar to the
bracket on the adapter board. Put the plate and screw aside.
6
6
Plug the board firmly into the slot. If the computer has a
tower or mini-tower case with a vertical main board, you may
want to lay the computer down gently on its side so you can
push straight down on the adapter board to seat it firmly in its
slot. The slot is not very deep; the board will travel only about
¼ inch, and you should be able to feel it slide into place.
Do
not force it.
Note:
The wires on the undersides of most circuit boards
can be quite sharp; be careful not to cut your hands.
Be sure that the bracket is lined up properly; then screw the
bracket of the adapter board into the computer with the screw
you removed with the cover plate in step 5.
