DC Connections for Stacked Inverters
Dual Inverter Single Battery Bank
In this configuration during Shore mode, the charging current is doubled to minimize charging time. Use individual overcurrent
devices between the battery positive and each inverter. Keep cable lengths to the two inverter/chargers the same in order to
balance cable losses. If not, the battery cable difference in length between the two inverter/chargers should not exceed 12 inches
(30.48 cm).
NOTICE
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
n
Contact Xantrex prior to stacking two Freedom EX 4000 units together. Stacking configuration via USB is a required step to
enable stacking.
n
Install stacked Freedom EX 4000s in close proximity to each other.
n
Connect the inverter’s battery negative terminals together. Install a 2-pole battery breaker near the battery positive terminals.
n
Each inverter must be enabled and turned on individually before AC power becomes available.
n
If parallel stacking Freedom EX 4000s to increase charging capacity, be sure to consult your battery manufacturer and battery
specifications to avoid damaging the battery due to overcharging.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
Connect the stacked system as follows:
1. Connect each negative terminal to the battery.
2. Connect a Grounding wire to the common negative.
3. Connect each positive terminal of the inverter to the battery through a single DC disconnect (for example, a 2-pole battery
breaker) as shown below. Do not tie the positives together between inverters.
4. Connect the Ground bonding wire from each inverter to the same location on the vehicle chassis. Use that same length and
gauge wire for both inverter/chargers.
5. Connect the battery temperature sensors (BTS), if needed.
6. Make sure the DC disconnect device is open to prevent energizing the inverter/charger.
