1.
Unplug the treadmill from the power source. Ensure it cannot be turned back on.
2.
Remove the treadmill side covers (see Section 6.10).
3.
If the treadmill has an electrical cover, remove the 6 screws holding the cover in
place. Remove the electrical cover.
4.
Using the ¾” box wrench, loosen the jam nut and then loosen the 2 belt-tensioning
bolts until flush with the tensioning block (Pos. 1, 8).
5.
Using the 9/16” socket wrench, remove the nuts on the idler shaft bearing by the
AC bracket. This should cause the shaft to slide towards the rear of the treadmill
(Pos. 4).
6.
Remove the bearing from the shaft by loosening the set screws and sliding it off the
shaft. If it does not slide off, use the gear puller (Pos. 2, 3).
7.
Remove the 4 nuts on the idler shaft bracket (Pos. 5, 6).
8.
Remove the idler shaft assembly by turning it at an angle and pulling it out of the
treadmill on the side of the idler bracket (Pos. 7).
1.
The replacement idler shaft comes packaged with a new bracket and new bearing
(if the bearing is already on the shaft, you will have to remove it).
2.
Insert the new idler shaft assembly into the belt at an angle until it is fully installed
(Pos. 7).
3.
Slide the bearing onto the idler shaft on the AC bracket side. Attach the bearing to
the frame. The bolts are installed from the inside out. Leave all bolts and set screws
so they are not fully tightened (Pos. 2, 3, 4).
4.
Put the idler shaft tensioning bracket on the shaft on the front left side of the
treadmill. Do not fully tighten the set screws (Pos. 5, 7).
5.
Attach 4 bolts that hold the bracket to the treadmill. Remember that the bolts are
installed from the inside of the treadmill out. Do not fully tighten the bolts
(Pos. 5, 6).
6.
Tension the running belt. Run both ¾” tension bolts back in until the tension is set
on both sides. The measurements are made from tooth-to-tooth on the treadmill
centerline. Desmo/Mercury models should be set to 8.5” (21.6 cm) and Path/Wide
Path models should be set to 8.25” (21 cm). The tensioning bracket will need to be
held level (pull upwards on bracket) when the measurement is being checked.
7.
Spin the belt by hand several times to ensure proper alignment and recheck the
tension.
8.
Using the rubber mallet, tap the end of the idler shaft until there is an equal amount
of space between the outside of the pulleys and the inside of the frame rails on
both sides. Do not fully tighten the set screws.
9.
Check the belt tension once more. If the distance is still correct, tighten the 4 nuts
on the idler shaft tensioning bracket and the 2 nuts on the idler shaft bearing
(Pos. 4, 6).
10.
Apply red Loctite to the idler shaft set screws and tighten them to 78 in-lbs. There
are 2 screws on each bearing (Pos. 3).
11.
Tighten the jam nuts on the tensioning bolts on both sides of the treadmill (Pos. 8).
12.
Re-install the side covers (see Section 6.10).
