6.1 Linear expansion of the pipe system
Linear expansions (lengthening or shortening) of the pipe system are
caused by variations in temperature. An increase in temperature results
in lengthening of the pipe, a decrease in temperature shortens the pipe. It
is very important to take this into consideration if the installation tempera-
ture differs considerably in comparison to the operating temperature.
The length change can be calculated with the following formula:

For example, a temperature variation of 10ºC in an ABS pipe with a
length of 10m results in an expansion of 10.1mm.
Pipe clips As a rule, plastic pipe clips, type 23, are used for the installation of pipe
systems (
∅
25mm). They do not allow for linear expansion and in areas
with high temperature variations the plastic pipe shells, type CLIC-PA
must be used. (see fig. 6.1).
