Note the following:
•
This feature works only between two Galaxy systems in a point-to-point call.
•
The remote Galaxy user must also enable their Data Port(s) in their V
TOUCH
software.
•
When you specify a baud rate (such as 9600), the Galaxy system dedicates that amount of bandwidth to
the User Data port. Therefore, when you are not using this feature, VTEL recommends that you disable
the port(s) to increase your video bandwidth. Your settings will be saved.

Each User Data port can be mapped to any serial port. There is no restriction that Port 1 must be mapped to
COM1, Port 2 to COM2, for example.
Response Time
The real-time response of User Data depends on many factors. The User Data application attempts to reserve
enough bandwidth to satisfy all the equipment connected to its ports. Therefore, it is recommended that you
connect at a high line speed if you intend to transfer real-time critical data.
With H.323 calls, the real-time response depends on the TCP/IP network load, since the data is transferred as
TCP/IP packets. The current TCP/IP standard does not allow the software to guarantee any bandwidth.
Therefore, if the LAN or WAN is heavily loaded with other traffic, there will be a significant delay in User Data
response time.
To activate a new channel, click
the graphic of an available
channel and assign a COM port
and settings for it to use.
Refer to your equipment
documentation for the proper
settings.

Use
to activate the channel
and display all of the setting
choices.
A list of common baud rates
appears here. If your equipment
uses a non-standard rate, choose
the
Custom
button so that you
can enter your own number.
