What to watch and listen for. . .

Headsets Indication of high call volume area.
Indication of employee health issues.
Wireless phones Need for mobility. Look for current application
or new one if not used.
Overhead paging Look for current application or new one if not
used. Consider and comment on quality.
Paging through handsets Look for current application or new one if not
used. Consider and comment on quality.
Old equipment Might indicate reluctance to spend money on
technology.
New equipment Might indicate awareness of new technology
and willingness to spend.
Cubicles Indication of potential telephone users.
Therapeutic chairs Indication people are seated for long periods of
time and that the company cares.
Telephone lists Indication of commonly dialed numbers-ask if
speed dials are used and how easy they are to
set up and use.
Maps of territories or customers Ask what the maps represent and how these
customers/reps are serviced.
Are these remote offices, how are they
connected for voice/data (VoIP).
Listen to the operator Observe busy times and ask questions about
heavy phone users.
Listen for ringing telephones Indication of people not being where they are
supposed to be.
Indication of poor or non-existent policy on the
use of voice mail.
