A very popular example of emerging technology in the workplace is the wireless network-enabled
personal digital assistant (PDA). Gartner Research reports that nearly half of all new PDAs are
purchased by enterprises, which means that they are being put to work as business-productivity
tools. Microsoft Windows CE, also known as Mobile Edition, has emerged as the operating system

to assist in their training. As she does this, she keeps an eye on the shift schedules on her PDA.
While out on the floor, she has her internal calls forwarded to the PDA’s extension.
