Observe the top of the focusing tool.  Now raise the engraving table until the focusing 
tool just starts to tilt away from the lens holder as shown in the diagram below.  Back 
the engraving table down again slightly so the focusing tool again sets flat against the 
side of the lens holder. 
 
Press the “ESCAPE” key twice to bring up the main menu.  Focus is now complete. 
 
The second method to adjust focus does not incorporate the use of the focus tool.  
Remove the material from the laser system and measure the thickness of the material in 
the location where the engraving will appear.  Load the material back into the laser 
system and go over to the control panel.  While the main menu is displayed,  press the 
“SETUP” key.  Again bring the cursor down to “OBJ. HEIGHT” and press “SELECT”.  
Use the up and down arrow keys to manually insert the thickness of the material all the 
way out to the thousandths digit.  When the data has been entered,  press the 
“SELECT” key.  If a different lens is being used, bring the cursor down to the “SD RES 
LENS” selection and press “SELECT” to toggle the choice among the three lenses 
available(“HIGH RES” and “LOW RES” are optional lenses).  When the correct lens is 
displayed,  move the cursor back up to set the new “OBJ. HEIGHT” adjustment.  Once 
all adjustments have been made,  pressing “ESCAPE” twice will bring back the main 
menu display. 
 
There are other options in the Z-axis control menu system.  To prevent the Z-axis table 
from homing every time the laser is powered up,  go to the main menu,  press the 
“SETUP” key,  and while the cursor is on the line the reads “Z AXIS HOMING”,  press 
the “SELECT” key to display the next submenu as shown below. 
 

 

 

To set the homing OFF,  move the cursor down to “CHANGE Z HOMING” and press 
“SELECT”.  This will toggle the choice between “ON” and “OFF”.  Next,  bring the cursor 
down to either “CANCEL” or “YES” and make the appropriate selection. 

 

If “YES” is selected,  the focus tool method 

MUST

 now be used when focusing.  The 

following display will appear: 
 

 

 
Since the “Z AXIS HOMING” has now been turned OFF,  disregard the numerical data 
that is being displayed.  This number is set to zero every time the laser is powered up 
regardless of the height of the Z-axis table.  This “OBJ. HEIGHT” data will only be 
correct when the homing is set back ON.
