7.4 Current consumption - auxiliary consumers
The following information may be used when installing electrical
consumers such as Electric Trailer Brakes, Emergency Warning
Lights and other high amperage consumers.
Important Note:
When installing accessory electrical
devices, the following instructions
MUST be followed to prevent catastro-
phic damage to the electrical and elec-
tronically systems on the Unimog. Fail-
ure to follow this procedure will void
warranty on the electrical and electroni-
cally systems.
If auxiliary electrically driven components are installed, batteries
or alternators with higher outputs (code M37) may be necessary.
Retrofitting of larger batteries by the implement or body manu-
facturer is possible. If, despite these measures, the output of the
vehicle electrical system is insufficient, a vehicle-independent
power supply must be installed.
If the implement or body manufacturer subsequently installs
electrical consumers, the following must be noted:
•
Do not connect additional consumers to assigned fuses.
•
Do not connect additional cables to existing cables (e.g.
with insulation displacement connectors).
•
Provide consumers with sufficient protection via addi-
tional fuses.
The implement / body manufacturer may install additional
electrical consumers ONLY if the following instructions are
followed:
•
New positive and ground cables
MUST
be run from the
batteries to the cab. All cables must be protected from
chafing. All cables
MUST NOT
come in contact with mov-
ing components or the exhaust system. All cables
MUST
be properly secured.
•
The new positive cable
MUST
be fused in the battery
compartment. Fuse
MUST
be of proper size for applied
electrical load.
•
Cables
MUST
run into cab through right side access in
rear floor of cab.
•
Cables should be color coded,
RED
for positive and ei-
ther
BLACK
or
BROWN
for ground.
•
Both positive and ground cables shall be the same size.
•
All cables shall be of an adequate size to properly carry
the expected electrical load (see Table 7.4).
•
Positive
cable
MUST
connect to output side of Battery
Master Switch.
•
Relays of proper size
MUST
be used.
•
Power for relay coils may be connected to either a switch
or Terminal 15 at the Central Location. Power for relay
coils
MUST
be fused.
Terminal 15 (ignition), terminal 30 (battery) and terminal 31
(ground) in the central connection location
MUST NOT
be used
for high amperage loads. Terminal 15
MAY
be used to operate
relays or to supply signal power to switches to operate relays
ONLY
with milliamp loads.
