Chapter 4
Software Installation

This chapter describes the procedures for installing an operating system on your server
(Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, or NetWare), and each of the standard
server tools.

Installing Windows NT Server 4.0

Before installing Windows NT Server 4.0:

Check the settings of the motherboard.

❖

Start the BIOS Setup Utility, select “PNP/PCI CONFIGURATION,” and make sure that
the “Plug and Play Aware O/S” option is set as follows:

Plug and Play Aware O/S: No

Manually Installing Windows NT Server 4.0

You can install Windows NT Server 4.0 from the Windows NT Server 4.0 Setup Disk, the
Windows NT server 4.0 CD-ROM, or using the WINNT command to install on a disk
already partitioned with MS-DOS. When installing Windows NT Server 4.0, however, you
should start the server from the Windows NT Server 4.0 Setup Disk, since the server
needs to load drivers from that disk.
