Baudot and ASCII Problems
Problem Symptom Cause Test/Solution
Unable to receive. No characters
appear on the screen. You are able to issue commands and
receive confirmation from the DSP,
but no on-air data is displayed. DCD indicator isn’t illuminated
because Threshold control isn’t
properly adjusted. Adjust Threshold control so that
DCD indicator illuminates when you
are properly tuned to another station.
Difficulty in tuning stations. Only 2 or 3 tuning bars light and
you’re unable to spread them apart
for normal display
When you try to tune stations it
appears that you can only get one of
the tones to track on the tuning
display at a time. WIDESHIFT is on while you’re
trying to receive a station sending
with narrow shift.
Turn WIDESHIFT OFF.
WIDESHIFT
is off while you’re
trying to receive a station sending
with a wide shift.
Turn
WIDESHIFT ON.
You are not able to get a definite
spread on the tuning bar when
tuning this station. Station may not be a teletype station,
for example it may be transmitting
Facsimile. Try another station.
Garbled print You appear to get nothing but
unreadable garbage Wrong mode or baud rate. Use Signal Analysis to assist in
identifying transmission type.
Mark / Space relationship
mismatched between Data Controller
and signal being received. Toggle RXREV to opposite status,
i.e. 'RXREV T', or use Signal
Analysis to assist in identifying
proper setting of RXREV.
When using Baudot, you
occasionally end up getting
meaningless sequences of
punctuation and numbers. Your station incorrectly decoded a
LTRS character or mistook some
other character to be a FIGS
character If you are in command mode, type
'L(return) to force the data controller
to Letters mode. If you are not in
command mode, type a (CTRL-C)
first.
The other station is configured to
automatically 'unshift on space',
which leaves you set in FIGS case
while other station is in LTRS case Set USOS to ON.
