LPS710E Long Travel Piezo Stage and Controller
5) Click ‘OK’ to save the settings and close the window.
Any voltage on the rear panel BNC connector is now amplified by the unit and
presented at the STAGE (drive) connector. The position of the piezo stage in closed
loop mode (0 to 800 µm) can be controlled by varying the 0-10V external source.
4.8 Thermal Shutdown
In order to protect the piezo driver card from overheating due to abnormal load
conditions, the electronics contains thermal protection circuitry. When the protection
is activated, the HV output its shut down, limiting the maximum output current to a few
milliamps, and the ‘Error’ LED on the GUI panel lights, warning the user of the fault
condition. If the overtemp condition occurs, turn off the controller and allow 10
minutes for the unit to cool down.
Caution
When driving the piezo stage from an external source, the external signal
is added to the software input (GUI panel or SetVoltOP software method)
and, if connected and selected, the Joystick.
In closed loop a drive voltage of 120V gives around 800 µm travel, in open
loop the drive voltage can be as high as 150 V with a travel of 1100 µm.
When using an external source and switching from open loop to closed
loop, care must be taken that the travel range is not pushed to its limit. If
closed loop is selected with excessive drive voltages applied, the stage
may jump position and/or drift.
Note
When the software contribution is 0µm and the unit is in closed loop, 0-10V will
correspond to 0 to 800um and each 1V BNC corresponds to 80um.
If the software contribution is set to 400um for example, the unit can then be
driven from 0 to 800um by +/-5V via Ext BNC. A software offset of 800um,
would then require -10 to 0V at the BNC to drive the unit.
