Thermo Scientific CryoStar NX70 Operator Guide

Set Up
Before sectioning, the blade holder and the Cryochamber should be at a stable temperature close to the
desired cutting temperature. These temperatures should be selected to suit the consistency of the
specimen.
All tools which come into contact with the sections or which are used to manipulate the specimen must
also be cooled to prevent the tissue from sticking to them. Therefore all accessories should be stored on
the shelves or in the brush tray in the Cryochamber. The exceptions to this rule are the specimen chucks
which should be kept at room temperature.
The heated sliding window should be closed during periods of inactivity and while preparing specimens
to avoid warm air getting into the chamber. This will result in more favourable working conditions and a
lower frost build-up.
Ensure that the Vacutome filter is properly inserted in the filter unit and is suitably maintained - see
Cleaning and Maintenance.
