Chipset Overview

Built upon the functionality and capability of the Intel® E5-2600 V2 Series Proces-
sor (Socket R) and the PCH C602 Chipset. X9DRi-F provides the performance
required for dual processor-based high-end systems, including optimal configuration
options for communications, high-end CAD systems, or database applications.
X9DRi-F supports up to two E5-2600-series V2 Intel® 64-bit Xeon processors. The
processor family is of the Sandy Bridge micro architecture and support, HT (Hyper-
Threading), up to 3.5 GHz and 12-cores, up to 30 MB L3 cache, Virtualization,
Turbo Boost, 2-way processing, and QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) up to 8.0 GT/s.
The Intel® chipset(s) consists of:

• the Intel® C602 chipset, or

With the Intel® QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) controller built in the processor, the
C602 Series Processor platform offers point-to-point serial interconnect interface
with CPU-to-CPU transfer speeds of up to 8.0 GT/s, providing fast speeds, and
excellent system performance. The Intel® E5-2600 CPU has two QPI links.

The C602 chipset supports up to 8x1 PCI Express ports, single 32-bit 33 MHz PCI
bus, and DMI for the processor(s). The PCH provides up to (total number represents
chipset capability and does not necessarily represent actually motherboard specs) 14
USB 2.0, 2 SATA/SAS 1.5/3/6 Gbits + 6 SATA/SAS 1.5/3 Gbit/s connections, Inte-
grated LAN, Integrated Graphics, and Active Management Technology 7.1. In addi-
tion, the Intel® C602 platform also offers a wide range of RAS (Reliability,
Availability and Serviceability) features. These features include memory interface
ECC with double-bit error detection, Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC), parity pro-
tection, out-of-band register access via SMBus, memory mirroring, memory sparing,
and Hot-plug support on the PCI-Express Interface.
