in Chapter 3, ÒPrinting From a PC.Ó Then refer to other chapters in this
printing reference to perform common tasks, such as making color

About Control-D characters in Windows print jobs
Windows automatically puts Control-D characters at the beginning and end
of each print job. If your computer is connected to the printer through a
parallel or serial port, you need to leave these characters in the Þles.
However, if your computer is connected to an Ethernet network such as
Novell
¨
NetWare
¨
or TCP/IP
ª
, you should delete the Control-D characters.
Refer to Chapter 8, ÒModifying Printer Operation,Ó for instructions on
deleting Control-D characters from Windows print jobs.
Using the PC utility Þles
The utility Þles change the way the printer operates. To use the Þles, send
them to the printer from the communications port your printer is connected
to. First, locate the Þles you want to use on the Printer Utilities diskette.
Then use the DOS
COPY
command to send the desired Þle to the printer.
You can copy the Þles to your computer's hard disk, or use the Þles directly
from the diskette.
For example, to reset the printer you would send the
RESET.PS
Þle to the
printer. If your printer is connected to a parallel (LPT) port, type the
following command (where
X
is 1, 2, or 3):
COPY RESET.PS LPT
X
:
If your printer is connected to a serial (COM) port, type the
following command (where
X
is 1, 2, or 3):
COPY RESET.PS COM
X
:
If your printer is connected to a Novell or TCP/IP network, you should
follow the instructions provided with your network software.
