Installing the 4-port Adapter
3-4 Sylantro 4-Port Adapter Installation Guide
Setting Up a Digital Adapter to Support an Analog
Device
For customers that have a mixed environment where both digital and analog devices
need to be supported, the digital adapter can be configured with three digital ports
and one analog port. This allows a customer to use the same adapter for three
Toshiba phones and have a fourth port available for an analog device like a fax
machine or modem.
Every time a digital adapter is powered on, it uses the TOSH 4 port to determine its
configuration. If the digital adapter detects that a phone is
not
connected to the
TOSH 4 port, it automatically configures itself for three digital ports and one analog
port. In this case, the POTS port becomes available for an analog device and the
TOSH 4 port is not enabled.
When the digital adapter
does
detect that a phone is connected to the TOSH 4 port,
all four digital ports are made available and the POTS port is not enabled.
Connecting the Power
Connect one end of the power cord to the +5VDC inlet on the back of the adapter
and the other end to a surge protector. The surge protector can then be plugged into
a 110V outlet.
The adapter is on after the power is connected.
Note:
If an adapter has already been configured to support an analog
device and you need to add a fourth digital phone to the adapter, unplug
the power to the digital adapter, then plug the phone into the TOSH 4 port
and reconnect power to the adapter. Once the adapter powers on, the
fourth phone is detected and the analog POTS port is no longer enabled.
Caution:
Use the power cord that is shipped with the adapter. Using a
different cable can cause damage to the system.
Warning:
To prevent dangerous overloading of the power circuit, read
the label on the rear of the adapter that indicates maximum power load
ratings. Failure to follow these rating guidelines could result in a dangerous
situation.
