Final Assembly
(continued)
77.
Refer to the
Push Rod Detail
on the detail sheet, and make up two part “Bs” from the
excess pieces of .015 wire. Trim part “B” to an overall length of about 3/4 in.
78.
Fit the “Z” bend at the end of part “B” to the control horn on the rudder, and connect it to the
push rod with a 3/8 in. length of the pre-shrunk heat-shrink tubing. Repeat for the elevator.
79.
Wings:
Remove the covering over the slots for the main spar at the
top
of the fuselage
sides, just above the cockpit. Slide the spar W5 (sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply) through the slots
in the fuselage. Position the spar so that the alignment marks, at each end of the
center
section, line up with the outer face of the fuselage sides. Wick CA along the spar/fuselage
joint, to secure it in position.
80.
Fit the wings, by first sliding the tip
of the main spar through the slot in rib W2
.
Then, fit the
notches at the root of the wing panel to the tabs along the
top
of the fuselage sides. Bond
the wing to the fuselage sides and the spar with CA.
81.
Struts:
Remove the covering over the slot in the fuselage sides, just
above
the
rear
of
landing gear strut LG2. Fit the base of one set of flying struts into the slot, oriented so that
strut Sa is toward the
front
of the model, and Sb is toward the
rear
. Fit the
top
of the struts
into the notches in the
bottom
of rib W3 – Sa in the
forward
notch, Sb in the
rear
notch.
View the model from the
front
, and ensure that the wing panel is straight. If a twist is
detected, adjust the ends of the struts within the notches at rib W3, until the wing is straight
and true. When satisfied that the wing is straight, bond the struts to the fuselage and wing
with medium CA. Repeat this procedure for the struts on the other wing panel.
82.
Windscreen:
Slit the covering over the slot in the
upper
nose sheeting, just
behind
the tab
on former F3.
