Wheel Pants
(continued)
46.
View the wheel pants from the
front
and
rear
, rounding the
top
and sides, leaving the
bottom square.
47.
Sand all the curves smoothly, until the wheel pants look uniform.
Set the completed wheel pants aside, until required in final assembly.
Struts
48.
Build two sets of flying struts, by fitting and bonding parts Sa and Sb (sheet 08/08,
1/32 in. ply) together. Lightly sand the struts, and set them aside, until required in final
assembly.
49.
Build the central landing gear struts (refer to the
Landing Gear Detail
on the detail sheets)
from parts LG3a and LG3b (sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply). Bond with CA.
Final Assembly
50.
Covering and Painting:
Use a high-quality, light-weight covering material such as
AeroLite, available in rolls or convenient PatchPaks from stevensaero.com. One PatchPak
for the base color, and one for the trim color, will provide all the covering material needed
for this model. For painting the smaller parts, we recommend a high-quality, lacquer-based
paint, such as Design Master Color Tool, available at most arts and crafts stores. Design
Master Color Tool is light
-
weight, fast
-
drying, and is ideal for this project.
Fuselage:
Cover the fuselage, leaving the
bottom
of the
rear
portion of the fuselage
uncovered at this time. You will cover this area after the push rods
are installed in a later
step.
Wings:
Paint the underside of the wings, if desired, prior to covering. Cover the
top
of the
wings only.
Note: Covering the bottom of the wings will greatly degrade the flying
performance of the model.
Wheel Pants and Struts:
Paint the wheel pants and flying struts, landing gear struts LG2
(sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply), and the LG3 assembly to match the chosen color scheme.
Tail surfaces:
Paint or cover to match the chosen color scheme.
Push Rods and Electronics:
51.
Refer to the
Push Rod Detail
on the detail sheets, and make a “snake” bend in one end of
each of the .015 wire push rods supplied in the kit.
