Final Assembly
(continued)
71.
Fit the horizontal stabilizer to the four tabs at the upper
rear
of the fuselage. View the
fuselage from the
front
and
rear
, and ensure that the stabilizer is level and perpendicular to
the fuselage sides. Bond the stabilizer to the fuselage by running a small bead of medium
CA along the seam where the stabilizer and fuselage meet.
72.
Using low-tack masking tape, tape the vertical stabilizer and rudder, bevelled side down,
to the workbench. Ensure that there is at least a 1/64 in. gap between the two surfaces.
Slit a length of 1/2 in. clear tape down the center, leaving a strip about 1/4 in wide. Apply
this strip over the gap between the two surfaces, and trim off the excess. Remove the
stabilizer/rudder from the workbench. Flex the rudder back and forth, ensuring that it
moves freely, with no binding. If the rudder does not move freely, remove the hinge tape
and repeat the hinging process, slightly widening the gap between the two surfaces.
73.
Slit the covering over the control horn slot on the
right
side of the rudder. Press the rudder
control horn R2 (sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply) into the slot, oriented so that the hole in the end
of the horn is positioned over the leading edge of the rudder. Bond the control horn to the
rudder with medium CA.
74.
Fit the tabs at the base of the vertical stabilizer to the slots in the center of the horizontal
stabilizer. View the model from the
front
and
rear,
ensuring that the stabilizer is vertical and
perpendicular to the top of the fuselage and horizontal stabilizer. Bond the vertical stabilizer
to the horizontal stabilizer by running a small bead of medium CA along the base of the
stabilizer, on both sides.
75.
Control Linkages: Trim the push rod wires 1/4 in. short of the control horns on the elevator
and rudder. Save the excess for the next step.
76.
Pre-shrink a length of 1/16 in. heat shrink tube (supplied in the kit) over the two scraps of .
015 in. wire. Allow the tube to cool, then remove from the wires. Save the wire for the next
step.
