Final Assembly
(continued)
64.
Fit LG2 to the slots, and rest it against the landing gear wire. Bond LG2 to the fuselage at
the tabs only.
Note: Do not bond LG2 to the landing gear wire!
The wire must remain
free to flex and absorb the shock of landing. Repeat for the other side.
65.
Fit LG3 to the opening in LG1 within the landing gear pocket. Bond with CA around the
base of LG3, to secure it. Fit the ends of LG3 to the notches at the ends of both LG2s, and
bond.
66.
Remove the covering over the slot at the
bottom rear
of the fuselage. Fit the tail skid TS
(sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply) to the slot, and bond with thin CA.
67.
Tail Surfaces:
Using low-tack masking tape, tape the horizontal stabilizer and elevator,
bevelled side
down
, to the work surface. Ensure that there is at least a 1/64 in. gap
between the two surfaces. Cut a length of 1/2 in. clear tape down the center, leaving a strip
about 1/4 in. wide. Apply this strip over the gap between the two surfaces, and trim off the
excess. Remove the stabilizer/elevator from the workbench. Flex the elevator back and
forth, and ensure that it moves freely, with no binding. If the elevator does not move freely,
remove the hinge tape and repeat the hinging process, slightly widening the gap between
the two surfaces.
68.
Lay the stabilizer/elevator on the work surface,
bottom
side
up
. Slit the covering over the
control horn slot on the
lower left
side of the elevator. Press the elevator control horn E3
into the slot, oriented so that the hole in the end of the horn is over the elevator hinge line,
and bond with medium CA.
69.
Remove the covering over the slots on the
bottom
of the horizontal stabilizer.
70.
Remove the covering over the two central slots on the
top
of the stabilizer.
