Fuselage
(continued)
30.
Fit F19 to the tabs on F3 and F16. Bond F19 to the fuselage sides, nose, and F3.
Note: The slot in F19 immediately behind the opening for the tab on former F3. This
slot is the forward windscreen mount. Ensure that the slot is not filled with glue
during the bonding process.
31.
Shaping and Final Sanding:
Use a sanding block to round the edges of the nose.
Shape the nose so it flows smoothly into the
top
and
sides
of the fuselage. Turn the
fuselage over, and round the
bottom
of the nose, so it flows smoothly into the
bottom
sheeting. Smooth the joint between F15 and F18, and round F18 into the fuselage sides.
32.
Give the fuselage an overall light sanding, removing any excess glue and smoothing the
joints between parts, to prepare it for covering.
Set the completed fuselage aside, until required in final assembly.
Tail Surfaces
33.
Locate the horizontal stabilizer H (sheet 05/08, 1/20 in. balsa). Lightly sand the stabilizer,
rounding the leading edge, and leaving the trailing edge square.
34.
Assemble the elevator by fitting E1 (sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. ply) to two E2s (sheet 05/08, 1/20
in. balsa), and bond with CA.
35.
Align the leading edge of the elevator with the edge of the work surface. Use a sanding
block to sand a 45-degree bevel along the leading edge. This bevelled edge is now the
bottom
of the elevator.
36.
Locate the vertical stabilizer V (sheet 05/08, 1/20 in. balsa). Lightly sand the stabilizer,
rounding the leading edge, and leaving the trailing edge square.
