Turn the main burner
switch to ON. Wait 4 – 10
seconds.
Is there a spark at
the pilot hood?
1.) Is the system in lockout? If the system has failed 3 trials for ignition is will go into lockout. If
this is the case an error code will be displayed by a red LED next to the SW1 switch on the
IFC.
See page 5.
The LED will pulse three times in intervals. To clear lockout disconnect the
system from power, wait 30 seconds and restore power to the system. If the system is not in
lock out move to the next step.
in lockout proceed to the next step
2.) Is power available to the IFC? If the system is running on batteries ensure the batteries are
installed with correct polarity.
Diagram 2
. Ensure the minimum voltage is available to the IFC.
To test; set multi meter to voltage DC in a range of 10 volts or greater and test between the
red and black wires labeled “BAT” located on the IFC at X5. While 4.4 VDC is the minimum
required it is recommended to change the batteries if they are less than 5 VDC.
Diagram 3.
If
the system is connected to an AC power source ensure the IFC has power available. To test;
set meter to VAC in a range of 200V. Remove power from the unit. Remove the white plastic
cover from the X1 terminal on the IFC to expose connections. Plug unit back in and place red
probe to N-Neutral terminal and black probe to L-Live terminal. Should read approx. 120VAC
Diagram 1
. If no power available, check power source. If power is available move to next
step.
3.) Can ignition spark be heard? The spark electrode will spark and make a sharp snapping
sound approximately once a second for 30 seconds during a trial for ignition. If this sounds
can be heard but no spark is visible at pilot check the spark electrode wire and ceramic
insulator for damage or breaks. If damage found, replace electrode.
Diagram 4
. If no damage
found move to next step.
4.) Is the Spark Electrode fully seated into the X2 terminal on the IFC?
Diagram 5
. If no, connect
and test. If connected more to next step.
5.) Test the X2 spark terminal. To test; remove the spark electrode lead from the X2 terminal
and attach a jumper to the X2 terminal. Hold the other end of the jumper 1/8” away from a
grounded surface and turn the system ON. The jumper should spark to the grounded
surface.
Diagram 5B
. If no spark from jumper to ground and voltage is available at the IFC
(see step 2.) replace the IFC.
Yes
Did the
pilot light?
No
1.) Confirm minimum voltage is available to the IFC? (see step 2 above, Is there a spark
at pilot hood)
2.) Check ground connections. Ensure ground wire from IFC wire harness X5 to valve
body is connected.
Diagram 5a.
3.) Ensure orange wire from IFC X5 terminal to valve EV1 terminal is connected.
4.) Verify incoming gas pressure. Use manometer to test for required incoming fuel
pressure as marked on the rating plate. If minimum required fuel pressure is
available check pilot orifice and pilot hood for blockage or obstruction. Otherwise
move to next step.
5.) Test valve EV1 solenoid; set meter to ohms in a range of 1k ohms or greater.
Disconnect Orange wire from EV1 terminal. Place one probe on the EV1 terminal
and the other probe to the valve body. Reading should be 340 ohms (+/- 20 ohms)
If infinite resistance or open circuit replace valve.
Diagram 6
. If test is good move
to next step.
6.) Test IFC output to valve EV1; set meter to DCV in a range of 10DCV or greater.
With all wires connected to the valve place one probe to the EV1 terminal, place
the other probe to the valve body and turn the unit on. On call for heat the IFC will
send a pulse of 4-6 DCV for approximately 2 seconds, then drop to between 1 -
.5DCV.
Diagram 7
. If no voltage ensure the IFC has required power available
Diagram 1
. If power available to IFC but no power out, replace IFC. If minimum
required fuel pressure and power are available, replace valve.
Yes
