automatically span multiple PSA chassis’ within a PSA2400
system as well. When a local PSE configuration file is saved, all
of the “global settings” currently in effect will be stored in that
configuration file.
Note that some settings (see Section 2.4.4)
can only be adjusted by editing the local configuration file.
The local configuration [
Load
] and [
Save
] menus are accessed
under the [
File
] drop-down menu on the menu bar.
3.1.2. Port
Configuration
The
Port Configuration
menu shown in
Figure 3.4
enables control of various static port settings in each test port.
First, as is the case with all configuration and meter menus, the
Port Configuration
menu allows selection of the target
slot-port where configuration is to be set or queried. Additionally, it offers a
Select Chassis
button to access the
chassis selection dialog so that a configuration or configuration query can be performed on a different PowerSync
Analyzer chassis. Section 3.1.3 will further describe the chassis and slot-port selection process.
Port Configuration
also offers a
Copy Settings
button to access the port-replication menu. This widely available sub-
menu allows rapid duplication of a port configuration to one or more other ports in the currently selected chassis. This
process will be further described in Section 3.1.4.
Once the user has specified the target chassis and
slot-port, the
Read Settings
button may be
utilized to recover the current settings of the
selected test port. Note that each time
Configuration menu (Port, Trigger, or Load) is
opened, it will automatically update to the current
slot-port configuration settings. Also note that
the PSA100 consists of a single “virtual” slot and
therefore operates identically to a PSA1200 with
just a single slot (Slot #1) populated.
Port configuration settings include the
Port Type
switch for selecting the powered pair (
ALT A
or
ALT B
), the
Polarity
switch for selecting the
port’s voltage polarity (
MDI
or
MDI-X
), and
scrolling widgets for selecting or entering passive
detection resistance and capacitance. The
passive
Resistance
setting ranges from 9K to 39
K
Ω
in 1 K
Ω
increments. The passive
Capacitance
setting can take on the value of
0.14, 5.14, 7.14, or 11.14
μ
F in “Type 1” PSA test ports. Newer “Type 2” and “Type 3” PSA test ports add additional
values of 47, 52, 54, and 58
μ
F to aid with legacy mode PSE testing. PSA Interactive will automatically display these
values when a “Type 2” or “Type 3” test port is selected.
The
PSA-1200
High Power
checkbox configures PSA Interactive for utilizing external PSA-1200
Port Combiners
to
test High Power (30 Watt) PSE’s. This feature is the subject of Section 7 of this manual. For ordinary IEEE 802.3af
PSE testing, this box should
not be selected
.
The
Apply Settings
button will establish the settings for Port Type, Polarity, and Passive Detection values of resistance
and capacitance in the test port. These settings will persist until:
•
The chassis is power cycled.
•
A PSE local configuration file is loaded with different default
ALT
and
Polarity
settings.
•
A test script is run that modifies the passive resistance and capacitance settings. (
Note
: Generally standard
test suites such as the PSE Conformance Tests and the PSE Multi-Port Tests will not modify either the ALT
or POL settings as those are assumed fixed for a particular PSE type.)
