Assigning
Resources for the
CP 5412 (A2)
If you set an invalid interrupt or an invalid DPRAM range when
configuring the CP 5412 (A2), the computer may hang when it runs
through AUTOEXEC.BAT the next time you boot. It stops in the
firmware loader.
If this happens, follow the steps outlined below:
Step
Description
1
Reboot the computer but skip AUTOEXEC.BAT by pressing
the F5 key.
2
Call the setup program (under DOS or Windows) and start the
diagnostic program (Edit/Diagnosis menu)
3
Activate point [1] "Test HW Installation".
4
Activate point [2] "Tips for Installation".
5
Note down the free interrupts or usable DPRAM ranges.
6
Then configure the CP 5412 (A2) using the free resources.
The following problems are known:
Interrupt:
Some network cards (for example 3COM) have an automatic interrupt
selection function. Interrupts assigned in this way are not detected by
the diagnostic program and are indicated as being free. This applies, in
particular, to interrupts 10 and 11.
DPRAM:
In modern computers, the range E000
H
-EFFF
H
is used by a Plug&Play
BIOS. This area is still not available even if it is released in
CONFIG.SYS with
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=E000-EFFF
Try to use the ranges below E000 first (for example
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D3FF).
