Calibrate Analog-to-Digital Converter

SYNOPSIS

F3

- Calibrates the analog-to-digital (A/D) converter

DESCRIPTION

The

F3

function tells the analog-to-digital converter chip to perform it's cali-

bration. This removes the effects of temperature error on the analog-to-digi-
tal converter's readings.

After sending this command, you should wait 9 seconds before sending
another command. This command does not send any response to indicate
that calibration is complete.

The A/D converter chip is also calibrated when the PIM-3 instrument is pow-
ered up.

This command is a universal command. Sending this command for the spe-
cial address of “FF” will cause all PIM-3’s on the communications link to pro-
cess the command.

EXAMPLE

#00F3

The above command, when followed by a carriage return, will cause the
instrument addressed as "00" to tell the analog-to-digital converter chip to
perform a calibration.

WHEN TO USE IT

The A/D converter chip is calibrated whenever the instrument is powered up.
You would need to use this command if you know that the instrument experi-
ences a large change in ambient temperature while the instrument is always
powered up. Also, it is good practice to use this command before a recali-
bration.
