RS-232 INSTALLATION NOTES

7.1

Introduction

This chapter provides wiring examples and hardware

information for RS-232 communication with the Model
PIM-3. "DTE" (Data Terminal Equipment) will be used to
refer to the personal computer, programmable controller,
terminal, data acquisition system, etc. to which the PIM-3
is connected.

7.2

Function of Pins

The table below lists the pins on the DB-9 connector

that are used for RS-232 by the Model PIM-3.

7.3

Operation Notes

The DTE can send the PIM-3 a command string which

starts with the '#' character and ends in a Carriage Return.
If a "#" character is sent without a Carriage Return, the
PIM-3 will wait 10 seconds for the Carriage Return before
resetting its internal communications buffer.

If the address sent by the DTE matches the address of

the PIM-3 and the command string is valid, then the PIM-3
will begin processing the command string. After the PIM-
3 has finished processing the command string, the PIM-3
will send a response if neccessary.
