Section 05 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Subsection 04 (CHARGING SYSTEM)

NOTICE

Should any electrolyte spillage oc-

cur, immediately wash off area with a solution
of baking soda and water, then rinse thor-
oughly.

Remove retaining screws from battery holder if
applicable.

Unlock the upper tabs then slightly open battery
holder.

Separate lower tabs to unlock them.

Remove battery holder from battery.

Battery Cleaning

Clean the battery casing, caps, cables and battery
posts using a solution of baking soda and water.

NOTICE

Do not allow cleaning solution to en-

ter battery.

Remove corrosion from battery cable terminals
and battery posts using a firm wire brush. Rinse
with clear water then dry well.

Battery Inspection

Visually inspect battery casing for cracks or
other possible damages. If casing is damaged
or shows signs of acid leaking, replace battery
and thoroughly clean battery tray and surrounding
area with a solution of water and baking soda.

Inspect battery posts for corrosion and security of
mounting.

Inspect for cracked or damaged battery caps, re-
place defective caps.

NOTE:

Hand tighten caps then tighten an ad-

ditional 1/4 turn using a 20 mm (3/4 in) socket.
Using any other tool could damage the plastic
battery caps.
