Universal Controller (CVS-012)

The Universal Controller (CVS-012) is a device used for controlling hazard warning lighting
equipment that incorporates a built-in siren and a number of other power management
devices,  such  as  a  run  lock  and  split  charger  switching  logic.  The  Universal
Controller (CVS-012) is also available without a built-in siren (UNI-CON-005).

The unit has been primarily designed to control a lightbar, which is
achieved via a variety of compatible switching devices including
handsets and simple toggle switches. Each switch can be programmed
via the built-in programming interface, or, for the more specialised and
technically minded operator, we can supply PC software, but if this
option is used a hardware dongle is required to link between the Universal
Controller (CVS-012) and a PC, which acts as a program storage and software
loading device.

As well as the above features the unit has special signal inputs to connect directly to vehicle inputs, on board status LEDs for all the
main outputs, monitor outputs that reflect the switching status of the device (ideal for connecting to a data recorder), and finally a CAN
bus interface. The CAN bus is pre-programmed for connection to common vehicle protocol, such as the Ford Focus, but can be
programmed to suit a particular vehicle.

Product Versions

Both versions of the Universal Controller (CVS-012) are generally available in three formats as shown below. The final choice is dependant
upon the level of complexity the installation requires and how much programming the operator wishes to do. As such the Universal
Controller can be supplied to any of the following formats:

Standard Factory Set-Up:

The unit is pre-set at RSG with the ‘Standard Factory Set-Up’ software which will operate with most

industry standard lightbars and vehicle lighting, therefore the unit will require little or no adjustment on installation. Further
sections of this manual show typical application drawings for this configuration.

Custom Factory Set-Up:

The unit is pre-set at RSG to operate in-line with customers specific installation and operational

requirements. Before the unit is purchased we recommend some technical discussion in order to specify how the unit needs to
be configured. The device will then be allocated a unique part number, allowing a set-up record to be stored and so guaranteeing
the supply of future products to the same specification. Further sections of this manual show typical application drawings for this
configuration.

Customer Programmable Unit:

The unit would initially be supplied with a dongle (sold separately) and a CD containing

‘Standard Factory Set-Up’ software, ‘Full Programming Software’ and the ‘Software Manual’. Allowing the customer to directly
program the unit to meet specific requirements. Once the programming is completed RSG would either supply further units
pre-programmed to the ‘Customers Specification’ or with the ‘Standard Factory Set Up’ allowing the customer to define their
specific software. In cases where the units are supplied direct from RSG and pre-loaded with customer specified software the
device will be allocated a unique part number to ensure continuity of supply. Although further sections of this manual show
typical application drawings for this configuration, a copy of the ‘Full Programming Software and Manual’ would be required
to appreciate the overall operation of the device.
