Battery charging
Once the boat is recovered and all post recovery checks
have been completed, the isolators switched off and the
vessel refuelled, the shore power can then be connected
to the boat safely.
The charging socket is located aft of the large rubber torch,
under the throttle levers.
On-board electrical system
Batteries
The B-Class Atlantic 85 class lifeboat is fitted with four
Odyssey Extreme PC1100 batteries 45Ah. Each battery
bank consists of two 12 Volt batteries connected in parallel
to give 90 Ah per bank.
• Manual paralleling is possible using the couple batteries
button at the helmsman’s console.
• A main common negative connection is located in the
battery compartment.
• The port batteries supply the port engine.
• The starboard batteries supply the starboard engine.
• The charging socket is sited under the throttle box
on the starboard side and the coupler does not need
to be made.
CAUTION
The charging plug should be connected with the
shore charger turned off. Care should be taken to
align the pins in the plug with the socket to
avoid fuse damage.
With the shore charger turned off, the displays will show
the voltage of both battery banks. Make sure the two
readings are between 11.5 - 13.4 volts. If not, inform
the mechanic.
CAUTION
For stations that store an Atlantic within a boat
house, you must leave the battery hatch open
for ventilation.
Switch on the charger. After 20 seconds, the two displays
should rise to between 13.6 - 14.5 volts. If not, inform
the mechanic.
When the batteries are charged, the charger will show a
green light (float) and display 13.4 - 13.9 volts.
