Chapter 5. InfoPrint Email support

InfoPrint Email can be used for interoffice communication or to send emails to
other addresses around the world. You can take advantage of the Email option to
format documents that are both viewable and printable at company workstations.
Send and receive data from a wide variety of sources, whether the data is PCL,
PDF, PostScript, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, or a native SAP R/3 data stream (ABAP or OTF).
Incoming data can be all these types; the Email DSS converts the data to PDF for
viewing. To view output, you can use Adobe

®

Acrobat Reader (for more

information and available downloads, see the Adobe web site at

http://www.adobe.com

).

Note:

Color PDF and PostScript jobs will be converted to black and white PDF

emails if not handled appropriately.

Configuring InfoPrint Email

Before you can send Email through InfoPrint Manager for AIX, you must make
sure your SMTP Email server is correctly configured and defined to InfoPrint and
create an InfoPrintEmail destination.

Defining the SMTP Email server to InfoPrint

The InfoPrint Manager for AIX Email DSS uses a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
(SMTP) server to send email. The SMTP server must have MIME support. The
SMTP server used is defined by the InfoPrint Manager server attributes

smtp-server-host

and

smtp-server-port

. These attributes default to the local AIX

SMTP server. If you want to use a different SMTP server, you can modify these
server attributes.

Note:

Your SMTP server must be correctly configured to get outside the firewall if

you plan to send emails outside your firewall.

If you want to change the SMTP server for the InfoPrint AIX server, use this
procedure to accomplish this task.

To set the mail server at installation, start the

InfoPrint Manager

Administration Interface

by entering this from the AIX command line:

ipguiadvadm

.

2.

From the InfoPrint Manager Administration Servers main window, click

Server

→

Properties

.

3.

From the

Server Properties

dialog, specify your installation's mail server in the

SMTP server

field and the port in the SMTP

port

field.

Note:

The

SMTP server port

field defaults to

25

, which is the default port for

the SMTP server on most AIX servers.

Note that if you plan to use Email to send large PDF files consisting of fifty pages
or more, you will need to expand the size of the

/var/psf/segments

file system to

500 MB.
