Replacing the Node

Caution: This procedure requires that the hard drives from the failed
Node be removed and installed in the replacement Node.
This is necessary to retain the customer data. If the
customer requires that the new hard drives included in the
replacement Node be used, you must reinstall the system
software (see the
DXi-Series Software Installation and
Upgrade Guide
, PN 6-67321), and the customer data
currently on the system will be lost.
Caution:
Use appropriate ESD precautions, including the use of a
grounding strap, when performing this procedure.
Removing and replacing the DXi6902 Node includes the following steps:
• Removing a Failed Node
• Installing a Replacement Node
Removing a Failed Node
To remove the DXi6902 Node:
1 Shut down the system (see Turning On and Shutting Down the
System on page 21).
2 Remove the Node from the rack (see Opening and Closing the Node
on page 74).
Note:
You only need to open the cover if there is an optional
network card installed in PCIe slot 2 (see step 4 below).
3 Remove all hard drives from the failed Node (see Replacing a Node
Hard Drive on page 86).
Caution: You
must
note the number of each hard drive and
temporarily label them before removal so that you can
install each of them in the correct location in the
replacement Node.
4 If installed, removed the optional dual port 10 GbE card (along with
any associated SFPs) or optional quad port 1 GbE card installed in
