MOUNTING AND FITTING ON THE PATIENT
A.
Mounting the extension return
Install the extension return components: cable (a), settable stop (R), mobile support (c) and
springs (d), as shown in the diagram.
If when the knee is bent, the cable (a) rubs against the side screws (2.1) (2.2) of the connector
(2), replace these screws with the shortest screws (length 12 mm) contained in the package.
B.
Alignments
Static alignments:
The performance of the braking mechanism depends primarily on the alignment of the
prothesis
In the sagittal plane, the load line runs via the Trochanter, between 5 and 15 mm in
front of the knee axis.
The load line must run in front of the rear axis, or else it could cause premature
deterioration of the knee, and lead to a risk of breakage and therefore falling.
Make sure to respect the patient’s flexum.
For the foot, comply with the alignment instructions from the manufacturer.
In the frontal plane, the load line will run via the middle of the knee and the foot.
Dynamic alignments:
In normal walking, after fitting the extension return and the various settings set out below, the knee must be extended during
the stance phase.
Check the alignment using an appropriate tool (laser, plumb line, etc.)
C.
Setting
For the patient’s safety, the orthopaedic prosthetist must perform the initial test with the factory settings, between parallel
bars.
The foot model used may influence the knee settings. The knee should be set whenever the foot has been replaced. Using energy
return feet is recommended.
Ensure the patient’s safety under all circumstances, particularly when they are going down slopes.
After any maintenance operation, the knee will need to be set again.
Then adjust the settings, preferably in the
order below
:
1.
Setting the extension return force (R)
Set the extension return force by screwing in or unscrewing the settable stop (R) using a 4 mm male Allen key (k):
•
Clockwise = increase the tension
•
Anticlockwise = decrease the tension.
