Service Information Responses
In addition to the literal command and response
relay, the ASCII Command Service has a few
situations where it sends a line to the network
application. All of these information lines, from
the service to the client application, begin with
the character ‘#’ which never starts a valid display
ASCII command response. This allows the client
application to easily filter and ignore or process
these information lines that come directly from
the service. See below for specific details of the
service information lines.
Network Port
The ASCII Command Service is implemented on
port 57 for both TCP connections, and for UDP
packets. In order to use the service, your network
must not block port 57 for TCP and/or UDP,
depending on which transport protocol your
application uses.
