CANOPEN COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS
CANOPEN - DESCRIPTION
The protocol supports the CiA DS301 “communication profile area”.
Network management (NMT) manages the Pre-Operational, Operational, Stopped, Reset and Reset
Communication states with the related protocols.
The Heartbeat protocol is supported, set by default at 1 second and can be deactivated by
programming the intervention time to 0. (Index = 1017h).
The management of the Emergency message intervenes when the following events occur or cease:
• Sensor Fault (code = 5030h according to CiA DS404), when the load cell signal is not detectable
due to missing or incorrect connection or due to device hardware failure.
• Sensor Calibration (code = 6310h according to CiA DS404), when weight calibration has not
been performed.
• Input Overload (code = F001h according to CiA DS404), when the load cell signal is outside the
device reading range.
Two transmission PDOs are managed, with the following transmission types:
• Synchronous acyclic (00h): The data is sent in response to the SYNC signal only if the data has
been updated with respect to the previous sending.
• Synchronous cyclic (01h): The data is sent in response to the SYNC signal even if it has not yet
been updated.
• Asynchronous (FFh): This is the default operation that provides for the sending of the PDO to a
preset frequency that can be programmed in the communication parameters (default = 0, sending
disabled).
The PDO1 is mapped to transmit the following values (updated with 125 Hz frequency):
• Gross weight (Index = 2001h), formatted as Signed 32 bits.
• Net weight (Index = 2002h), formatted as Signed 32 bits.
The PDO2 is mapped to transmit the following values (updated with 125 Hz frequency):
• Gross weight (Index = 2003h), formatted as Signed 32 bits.
• Status Register (index = 2000h), formatted as Unsigned 16 bits.
• Digital inputs (Index = 2004h), formatted as Unsigned 8 bits.
• Outputs (Index = 2005h), formatted as Unsigned 8 bits.
