Full-speed unit
Includes exposure lamp and No.1 mirror. It moves
to scan the original.

Half-speed unit
Includes No.2 and No.3 mirrors. It scans at half
speed of the full speed unit keeping the optical path
length from the original to the lens constant.

Optics cooling fan
Cools the optics unit.

Optics unit drive motor
Stepping motor which drives full-speed unit and half-
speed unit.

Drive belt
Transmits driving force from optics motor to the full-
speed unit and the half-speed unit.

Lens
Focuses light reflected from the original onto the
CCD image sensor.

Laser unit
Includes semiconductor laser, polygon motor, f-

lens, mirrors, and collimator lens.

CCD image sensor
Converts light into electronic signals.

Exposure lamp
Xenon lamp which illuminates the original.

The process of converting light into electric signals is called "photo-electric
conversion". The elements used for the photo electric conversion are called
"photo-electric conversion elements", which use a reduced type of mono-chrome
linear CCD sensor.

CCD sensor
CCD image sensor consists of receiving area, transfer area, and output area.
The CCD sensor can detect approx. 7,500 picture element.
The charges which are converted electronic signal and stored by photo-diode
array are transferred using analog shift-register.
After transfer, these signals are retrieved accordingly.
In order to read signals with high speed, odd number of picture elements and
even number of picture elements are retrieved in parallel.
