6. PH-READER
6.1 General Information pH-Reader
6.1.1 Intended Use
The pH-Reader is an accessory, which enables continuous optical monitoring of pH of cell
cultures in the CERO. The measure of pH is based on the absorbance of the pH indicator phenol
red present in most cell culture media.
The CERO including its Reader is classified as a general laboratory instrument and is not an in
vitro diagnostic device.
6.1.2 Precautions when installing the Reader
Do not attempt to install the Reader while the CERO is in operation. Switch off the CERO and
disconnect the power cable before installing the Reader.
When installing the Reader, wear the required personal protection equipment.
6.2 Description pH-Reader
6.2.1 The Reader
The Reader for the CERO consists of two identical modules with 2 monitoring position each. It
contains the optics and electronics enabling the monitoring of the pH of cell cultures running
in the CERO (figure 25). The CEROtube is the only tubes enabling pH monitoring with the CERO
Reader.
