Restrictions on Windows Firewall
On Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 2, the Windows firewall
functionality is enhanced. The following restrictions may apply to printer drivers and utilities.

The following procedures are explained using Windows XP Service Pack 2 as an example. The procedure and menu names may
differ on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

You cannot print a file when using the
machine as a shared printer on a network.
On the server, click [
start
] and then select

].
Select the [
Exceptions
] tab and select the

File and Printer Sharing
] check box. Click
[
OK
].
LPR Utility
Unable to find a machine.
If the [
Don't allow exceptions
] check box is
selected on the [
General
] tab of the Windows
firewall, you cannot search for a machine in a
segment that is connected to another router.
Only machines within the same segment as
the machine are the search target.
When you cannot find a machine, specify the IP
address of the machine in the [
Add Printer
] or
[
Confirm Connections
] screen.
Storage Device
Manager
Unable to search a machine.
If the [
Don't allow exceptions
] check box is
selected on the [
General
] tab of Windows
Firewall, you cannot search for a machine in a
segment that is connected to another router.

When you cannot find a machine, enter the
machine name (arbitrary) and IP address in

Print Super Vision
Unable to access the machine from a remote
computer.

dows may be blocked.
On Internet Explorer, select [

Select the [

] tab and click [
Settings

on the [
Pop-up Blocker
] area. On the
[
Popup Blocker Settings
] window, enter the
URL of Print Super Vision in [
Address of Web
site to allow
] and then click [
Add
]. Click
[
Close
] > [
OK
].
