SCU Setup: Serial Interface

Central Alarm Interface

6.1.3.2

Other Serial Interface Settings

The remaining settings in the Serial Interface setup menu are relevant for the op-
eration of the NAVIPILOT 4000 heading control system only. If a NAVIPILOT 4000
is included in the system, refer to the heading control system manual for the re-
quired settings. If no NAVIPILOT 4000 is included in the system, make sure that all
unused interfaces are disabled.

Function:

Configures the serial data central alarm interface

Settings:

CENTRAL ALARM ENABLED: NO

Disables the central alarm interface.

CENTRAL ALARM ENABLED: YES

Enables the central alarm interface. For each pending system
alarm, the SCU periodically transmits a NMEA „ALR“ sentence
to the central alarm facility. When an alarm has not been ac-
knowledged yet, the „ALR“ sentence will contain an „unacknowl-
edged“ alarm state field. The alarm may then be acknowledged
from the central alarm facility, which will send a corresponding
NMEA „ACK“ sentence back to the SCU. This will mute the audi-
ble alarm at the SCU. The SCU continues to periodically send
an „ALR“ message with an „acknowledged“ alarm state field until
the alarm condition clears.

BAUD RATE
Sets the baud rate for the central alarm interface.

4800: standard NMEA baud rate 4800 bd.

9600: increased baud rate 9600 bd for faster transmission.

Caution

At the time of writing of this manual, it is required that a heading source is con-
nected to the Heading 1 interface and that the interface is configured correspond-
ingly, even if the system uses manual steering only. Without a heading input, the
system will permanently raise a fault 142 ("Compass selected not configured")
alarm.
This behavior will be corrected in future software releases.
