Interlock alarm
Figure 60
shows the door in the opened state, breaking the interlock circuit loop
at the door switch. The control circuitry detects this and immediately sends a
shut down signal to the laser (the laser pump). In addition, the control circuitry
sends a reset to the key switch logic circuit. The reset will cause the logic circuit
to de-energize the normally open relay function of the interlock circuit.

Acknowledging
interlock alarms
If the door closes again (closing the door switch), the only way to close the relay
again is to cycle the key to OFF and then ON (
Manual restart
). This sets the logic
circuit (a D Flip-Flop) to energize the coil again, closing the relay and clearing the
interlock alarm as long as the interlock circuit is still in the closed state.
Caution: Do not short-circuit the Interlock input. Short-circuiting the interlock cir -
cumvents safety regulations and NKT Photonics does not take liability for any in -
juries or damage caused by doing so.
Caution: The switch connected to the interlock must be of an approved type. Fur -
ther, the switch must be installed in a manner so that its operation cannot be fixed
in the open state using a tool.
Warning: If the interlock is bypassed using an interlock defeater, personnel may
be exposed to hazardous laser radiation. To reduce the risk to personnel, the per -
son or group responsible for operation of the equipment must undertake a risk as -
sessment and provide personnel with appropriate personal protective equipment
and safety training.
