Troubleshooting

When the product does not function properly, take appropriate action as described below. If the
problem is still not resolved after referring to "Troubleshooting," please contact your nearest Nikon
representative.

Optical System

Some parts are attached incorrectly.
Attach the parts (nosepiece, condenser,
filters, lamp, and so on) correctly.
Some movable part is not moved
correctly.
Move parts (optical path select lever,
nosepiece, filter slider and so on) to a
clickstop position.
The field diaphragm image is not
focused on the specimen surface.
Focus and center the condenser.
The field diaphragm is stopped down
too far.
Open the field diaphragm so that it is just
outside of the viewfield.
Dirt or dust exists on the lens or other
optical element, or on the container.
Clean off the dirt. Use a clean container.
The Bertrand lens is in the optical
path
Place it out of the optical path.
The top lens of the P swing-out
condenser is not positioned properly.
Move them fully.
The viewfield is invisible,
vignetted, or uneven in
brightness.
The P-CL, P-CS, or P-CQ plate is not
inserted correctly.
Move it to the correct position.
Dirt or dust exists on the lens or other
optical element, or on the container.
Clean off the dirt. Use a clean container.
Dirt or dust is seen in the
viewfield
The field diaphragm image is not
focused on the specimen surface.
Focus and center the condenser.
Dirt or dust exists on the lens or other
optical element, or on the container.
Clean off the dirt. Use a clean container.
Objective correction ring does not
match the thickness of the
container’s bottom plate.
Adjust the correction ring.
The field diaphragm image is not

The cover glass is not suitable for the
objective.
Use a cover glass and an objective in the
correct combination.
The cover glass is too thick.
Use the specified type of cover glass
(thickness: 0.17 mm).
There is no oil on the tip of an oil
immersion type objective. The
specified immersion oil is not being
used.
Apply Nikon Immersion Oil.
There are bubbles in the immersion
oil.
Remove the bubbles.
The image quality is
poor (too much or too
little contrast, or poor
resolution).
There is immersion oil on the tip of a
dry type objective.
Clean the components.
