Name Definition
Main tank First tank into which varnish is pumped from the varnish container. and
supplying the intermediate tank.
Manifold Bar with drilled holes feeding the print heads.
Manifold purging pipe Pipes intended to purge the manifold and intermediate tank.
Margin table Conveyor fitted with a belt which moves and locks up the printing substrate
against the side lay, thus bringing it onto the printing belt.
MGI ARC System
(Camera 1 + 2 + software) Crop mark configuration software which uses cameras 1 and 2.
Micrometer screw Device intended to adjust the cleaning unit when changing printing substrate.
Nozzle Hole which enables the varnish spot to go out of the printhead.
Nozzle plate Plate consisting of nozzles and located at the bottom of the printhead.
Opening/Closing blowing shutters Adjustment devices used to open the blowing holes to a more or less extent.
O-ring Round-shaped plastic ring which seals any setup.
Paper detection holes Elongated holes placed alternately on the printing belt in order to let the
printing substrate paper detection laser beam pass or not.

Paper detection laser Light beam intended to detect the front edge of the printing substrate under
the printing plate.

Paper transport roller (gray) Roller in contact with the printing substrate and which displaces the paper
between the printing substrate feeder and the margin table.
Pile holding weight Weight which holds the sheet pile against the printing substrate pick-up
feeder.
Pilot Operator/Technical interface which manages the automatic control system.
Pipe cutter Tool designed to cleanly cut the pipes without pinching them.
Pixel overlap Overlap area between two staggered print heads.
Polymerization Chemical reaction which dries and hardens varnish under ultraviolet light.
Positioning pin Pin used to accurately position one part in relation to another.
Power inverter Device which continuously supplies electrical power in case of power failure.
Printed substrate Substrate onto which varnish has been deposited (machine outfeed).
Printhead cleaning Process intended to apply inkjet cleaning agent to the print heads.
Printhead protective support Plate which protects the print heads during transportation through foam
soaked with cleaning agent.
Printhead wiping Action of wiping the print heads by hand using a printhead cleaning cotton
pad. or through the machine by making the print heads wipe against a special
tissue.
Printing belt Conveyor which moves the printing substrates under the printing plate and
drying units.
Printing plate Plate to which the printhead supports and print heads are attached.
Printing substrate Substrate onto which the print is deposited (machine infeed).
Printing substrate feeder Automatic feeder which feeds the margin table with printing substrates.
Printing substrate path Set of components used to transport the printing substrate.
Printing substrate pick-up Action of picking up the printing substrate from the printing substrate feeder
Printing table Flat metal plate which supports the printing belt.
Purge Venting principle intended to make varnish flow out for removing all air
bubbles from the ink system or any impurities from the nozzles.
Purge tray Tray placed below the printing plate for purging purposes.
Purging cap Caps fitted to the ends of the purging pipes (print heads and manifold) in
order to close them hermetically.
Purging system System designed to remove varnish from the print heads through purging.
This by inverting negative pressure to positive pressure.
Rack and pinion Mechanism designed to translate the printing and purging plates.
RCB Repartition Control Board. Electronic board which distributes the data to all
ICBs. and directly connected to the user interface.
