13 GLOSSARY
Name Definition
3DS Hub Manager Operator interface which manages printing.
Air bubble Bubbles present in the varnish system following installation or leakage. and
which may damage the print heads. and create random lines on the printed
substrate.
Air filter Filter which purifies air upon venting.
Air pipe (transparent) Transparent plastic pipe for the air system.
Air pump Pump used to make air flow in the air system.
Air system Set of purging and vacuum systems. made up of air pipes (transparent).
Ball guide Support on which balls are mounted for seating the printing substrate against
the margin table belt.
Black Lueur lock Connector for varnish between a varnish pipe and a varnish filter.
Blowing holes Holes through which air is blown to separate the printing substrates from the
printing substrate feeder pile.
Camera 1 (camera XY for color
print fluctuation compensation) Crop mark read camera for compensating for color print defects.
Camera 2 (camera XY for color
print fluctuation compensation) Crop mark read camera for compensating for color print defects.
Camera 3
(1D and 2D code camera) Camera which reads the 1D (barcode) and 2D (DataMatrix) codes used in
variable data mode at the margin table infeed.
Camera triggering sensor Sensor which triggers camera image taking.
Cleaning roller (green) Roller covered with an adhering substance in order to clean the printing
substrate at the printing substrate feeder outfeed.
Cleaning unit Unit to which the cleaning roller and paper transport roller are attached.
Container Varnish reserve which feeds the JETVARNISH 3DS.
Crop mark Symbol which enables the cameras (1 and 2) to locate the color print position
on the printing substrate.
Double sheet When two sheets (or more) are picked up by the vacuum drum.
DPI Drops Per Inch: unit which defines the resolution of a print.
DPI Dots Per Inch: unit which defines the resolution of a print file.
Fast coupling (female) Clamp-type coupling fitted with a ball providing for pressure-tight closing.
Fast coupling (male) Clamp-type coupling fitted with a ball providing for pressure-tight closing.
Fill Ink Action which forces the printhead ejection mechanism used to clean the
nozzles.
Foam Soft material used to prevent damage to the print heads during transportation
(printhead protective support).
ICB Interface Control Board. Electronic board which controls the printhead and
connected to the RCB.
Inkjet cleaning agent Varnish cleaning product.
Inkjet cleaning agent filter Filter which purifies the varnish cleaning agent.
Inkjet printhead Device intended to project varnish onto the printing substrate.
Inkjet printhead connector Female connector used to connect the connecting ribbon cable between the
printhead and the ICB.
Inkjet printhead input pipe Pipe allowing for varnish flowing into the printhead.
Inkjet printhead purging pipe Pipe intended to purge the printhead.
Inkjet printhead support height
sensor Sensor which detects the positions of the printhead plate in relation to the
printing substrate.
Inkjet printhead-ICB ribbon cable Connection used for communication between the printhead and the ICB.
Intermediate tank Second tank supplied by the main tank and attached to the manifold for
supplying it.
JETVARNISH 3DS Selective varnish printing machine.
Level sensor (Filling float) Float which detects the high or low tank level.
Long format/Banner extension Long tray (at the machine infeed and outfeed) which supports the printing
substrates and long format prints during printing.
