7 Modifications to the basic vehicle
We recommend the special equipment available
for cargo vans "Tie-down rails, sidewall to belt rail"
(code V42) for supporting shelving and workshop
installations.
Stability
The stability of the shelf system must be ensured by
mounting it to the vehicle floor and supporting it at the
vehicle sidewall. We recommend reinforcing the shelf
construction with diagonal struts.
In order to test shelf constructions with respect to their
stability and installation in the vehicle, we recommend
that upfitters commission an authorized testing insti-
tute to carry out the appropriate testing (e.g. based on
ECE R44: Crash test (frontal), sled test, tensile test).
Load rails ex-factory
The following vehicle load rail special equipment is
available ex-factory for cargo vans:
•
Code V42 - Tie-down rails, sidewall to belt rail
(underneath the stamped window shape, for sup-
porting shelving)
•
Code VV2 - Load retainer rail system for floor
mounting

The maximum tensile force of the properly retrofitted,
genuine Mercedes-Benz "Tie-down rails, sidewall to belt
rail" (retrofit code V42) is, as for special equipment
code V42 (see table above), 100 daN.
"Tie-down rails, sidewall to belt rail" (code V42) are only
available as special equipment for the Metris cargo van
or must be retrofitted to the cargo van by the upfitter.
The genuine Mercedes-Benz parts kit for retrofitting,
corresponding to code V42, contains all of the required
parts:
•
Tie-down rails
•
Bodyshell reinforcements (please consult with your
contact person regarding their use in your specific
vehicle)
•
Use the hexagon nuts (M8) of the retrofit parts
kit for attaching the tie-down rails and bodyshell
reinforcements using all of the bores provided as
standard for this purpose in the panel contour of
the belt rails, if weld nuts are not provided in the
belt rail ex-factory.
The stated values only apply if the following conditions
are met:
•
The load must be secured at two tie-down points of
the rail.
•
The distance to the next load securing point on the
same rail may be max. 1 m.
•
The load must stand on and be fixed in place at the
floor.

Additional information
Pay attention to and observe the operating and
assembly instructions provided with the parts kit
for retrofitting "Tie-down rails, sidewall to belt rail"
(corresponding to code V42).
